# The client / counterpart portal

> How your clients respond to requests, upload documents, and see what's outstanding.

Your clients respond to requests through the **counterpart portal** — a clean, focused surface that shows exactly what's outstanding and lets them upload.

## Inviting a client user

Each client has a **Client Owner** — their primary contact — plus any additional client users you invite. The owner can see all of the client's outstanding items; other users see the items assigned to them.

## Logging in

Client users access the portal via a secure link (magic link) or their credentials. Once in, they see a single list of what's still missing — derived from the stored item status, so it always matches what your firm sees.

## Uploading and submitting

For each request item, the client uploads the required file(s) and marks it **submitted**, which notifies the firm owner. If an item requires a file, "mark as submitted" is gated until one is attached. Comments alone never change an item's status.

## Revisions

If your firm requests a revision, the client sees the structured reason at the top of the item and can re-submit. Previous attempts are retained.

## Dual-role accounts

A single person can act as both a firm/tool user (who *requests* information) and a counterpart (who *provides* it) — for example when your firm is itself a client of another firm on Clivanta. Their memberships are unified under one login, and the **Requests inbox** shows both sides.
