A Pack is your firm’s standard procedure for a service type — the request items to collect, their instructions and sample formats, and the internal tasks your team runs. A Pack is not tied to any client; it’s a reusable template.

Snapshot on instantiation

When you create an engagement from a Pack, its items and tasks are copied in as a snapshot. From then on, the engagement’s items are independent — editing the Pack later never rewrites work already in progress. This keeps historical periods stable and auditable.

Groups

A Group organises related items under a heading — for example a “Bank Statements” group holding separate requests for each bank. Groups come in two kinds, and a group holds one or the other, never both:
  • Client-request groups organise request items the client responds to.
  • Internal-task groups organise your firm’s own tasks.
Packs carry template groups; when instantiated, each is copied into a first-class group on the engagement, and items/tasks are remapped onto it.
Write good instructions and sample formats once, in the Pack. Every engagement created from it inherits them — which is the single biggest lever for getting the right documents back the first time.
